With the GOP endorsing candidates that aren't their own, it reminds me of past elections where the Republicans were split, leading to further Democratic victories. The election of 1912 is just one example of this where you had Taft on the Republican ticket and Roosevelt on his Progressive "Bull Moose" ticket. These two stole votes from each other leaving the Democrat, Woodrow Wison, victorious. (Which is a damn good thing because I can't imagine Taft dealing with World War I in a nearly effective manner.)
ReplyDeleteAlso, the Election of 1924 where the Democrats were split led to Coolidge's reelection. The 1968 election is also a good example of this. Republicans need to pull it together if they want any chance of fighting Obama for the president's chair in 2012. Intraparty squabbling leads to lost elections. History has proven it over and over. Just some thoughts.
