Is this squabble between Fox and the Obama White House legitimate or has this issue been a long time coming? (Hello, we all saw Outfoxed)
What about Fox's new angle in using Obama's tough love to commercialize their brand?
Will Fox get in too deep by calling out other news organizations who are approved by Obama?
Kayla, you have raised some interesting questions. I do believe this "squabble" has been a long time coming. Fox should have seen it inevitable that after months of Glenn Beck shouting his mad prophecies over the airwaves (not unlike the ill-fated Howard Beale of "Network" fame) the Obama administration would quit ignoring them and actually say something about them. Fox has been blatantly "reporting" lies and pseudo-events as hard news since its conception On October 7, 1996. It's about time a position of authority calls them out on their bastardization of American journalism.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this is a slippery slope for the Obama administration. Attacking the press, even the dregs of journalistic integrity like Fox, is very, very dangerous. Already there has been flak from institutions of respectable journalism against the White House. And, I must agree that the Obama administration may be endangering themselves, even though my liberal bias agrees with them.
As for Fox's commercialization of Obama's attack, the administration should expect such from Fox. Anything Obama says Fox turns against him, and this is no different. They will continue turning this kind of stuff into leading stories and use it as an example of just how "Socialist" our President is.
As for calling out other news organizations, that is to be expected as well. But, if they drag more than MSNBC into the mix, they could cause themselves some problems in the world of American journalism.
